Curriculum Intent Statement

Religious Education

From our biblical teachings and Christian values, at St Leonards CE Primary Academy we teach RE with high expectations and creativity to promote language and religious literacy through both an explicit and enquiry based approach to learning, where reflection is both encouraged and valued.

We celebrate the diversity of our community and wider world through a balanced RE curriculum, with connections to people and places of worship in our local area.

Children are enabled to identify core concepts of world faiths and process these critically through their understanding of beliefs and ways of life; comparing to their own thoughts and the experiences of others.

The RE curriculum has been designed to ensure teachers are able to deliver high quality lessons, supported by good subject knowledge with high quality resources.

We have implemented a spiral curriculum to embed and build upon previous knowledge and learning, ensuring well linked and strong progress of skills and knowledge is made across the key stages.

Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.

Proverb 22:6

Religious Education Policy

Religious education

Christian teaching is based on the principles of the Church of England, aiming to promote each child’s spiritual and moral development across the whole curriculum in accordance with the East Sussex County Council’s Agreed Syllabus.

In accordance with statutory requirements, pupils will also learn about other religions, faiths and festivals in RE. We aim to help children to achieve a knowledge and understanding of faiths and develop their own beliefs, whilst recognising and respecting the rights of others to hold different beliefs.
