Curriculum Intent Statement

Geography

At St Leonards CE Primary Academy we aim to provide a Geography curriculum to develop pupils’ curiosity and fascination about the world and its people that will remain with them throughout their lives.

This links with our mission statement, "Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it" Proverb 22:6

We provide opportunities to investigate and enquire about our local area, this will support children to develop an understanding of who they are, their heritage, cultural capital and what makes our local area so unique and special. We are extremely lucky at St Leonards to be surrounded by a rich environment.  Our school grounds, local beaches, Hastings town, local parks and our well-equipped Forest school are all utilised to provide relevant and inspiring locations for fieldwork and geographical studies.

Learners will investigate a range of places, both in Britain and around the world to help develop knowledge and understanding of the Earth’s physical and human processes

We recognise the importance of Global learning, and as such, was one of the first schools to have joined the Sierra Leone friendship link back in 2007. Since then, several members of staff have given up their own time to support, fundraise and visit our twin town of Hastings in Sierra Leone to develop links with our partner school ‘Model Baptist Primary, Grafton’.
