Beach School

Beach School at St Leonards CE Primary Academy

Welcome to our Beach School webpage, where we celebrate the exciting opportunity for our children to engage in outdoor learning in the stunning coastal environment right on our doorstep.

What is Beach School?

Beach School offers a unique approach to education, blending traditional classroom learning with hands-on experiences in the natural world. Taking inspiration from the Forest School ethos, Beach School allows children to explore the wonders of the coastal environment, fostering a deep connection with nature while developing important life skills such as teamwork, resilience, being safe by the seaside and creativity.

Why is Beach School Beneficial?

Participating in Beach School provides a wealth of benefits for our pupils:

  • Enhanced Well-being: Time spent in nature has been shown to reduce stress and improve mental health.
  • Active Learning: Hands-on activities spark curiosity and a love of learning.
  • Curriculum Enrichment: Links to science, geography, art, and more are seamlessly integrated into each session.
  • Environmental Awareness: Exploring the coast nurtures a sense of responsibility for protecting our natural world, building courageous advocates for our oceans, aswell as teaching children how to keep safe by the sea.
  • Social Skills: Working collaboratively fosters teamwork, communication, and empathy.
