Hastings Sierra Leone Friendship Link

Our link school in Sierra Leone - Africa

We are part of the Hastings Sierra Leone Friendship Link Schools' Programme. Hastings, UK is twinned with Hastings Sierra Leone. Our link school is Model Baptist, Grafton. 

Linking schools is absolutely fundamental to the friendship between the two Hastings. Though resources are very limited – almost non-existent – the children in Hastings SL see education as something precious. Schooling means primary education for most children – the opportunities for secondary education are extremely limited. The establishing of the school links means a deeper understanding of education both in SL and in the UK. Both schools have carried out projects in both recycling (zero-waste project) and 'growing' as part of the Schools' Farm Project.

Teachers from within St Leonards Primary Academy have had the opportunity to visit the school and establish links. There is also an International Pupil Council that representatives from both schools attend.

In October 2023, Mrs Havbro, Miss Noble and Miss King will be travelling to Sierra Leone to visit our link school. We look forward to sharing more about this.
