Learning Outside of the Classroom

Learning Outside the Classroom (LOtC) is the use of places other than the classroom for teaching and learning. It is about getting children and young people out and about, providing them with challenging, exciting and different experiences to help them learn.

Learning outside the classroom is a tool for teaching and learning which has been proven to raise attainment and achievement, improve behaviour and improve the engagement of all groups of pupils, including those who are hard to engage inside the classroom environment.

We recognise that the best place for learning may not always be in a conventional classroom environment. To us, learning outside of the classroom is an important part of our curriculum. It’s another, much larger, classroom, with an abundance of natural resources and many opportunities for hands-on learning.

We are fortunate with our surroundings, benefiting from extensive grounds that have been adapted to enable a variety of outdoor teaching to take place. Our facilities include large playgrounds and playing fields, a forest school area and allotment.

We have worked hard to develop the outdoor learning environment within the school grounds. School Working Together Days’ are used to work with parents and children to develop these areas.
