"Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it" Proverb 22:6

Enrichment

Introduction

Enrichment programmes are vital to ignite thirst for learning in children, as well as to assist them to develop wider skills, flexibility and resourcefulness. We know that enrichment gives children opportunities to try new and varied activities that develop character, resilience and motivation, and encourage them to pursue wider goals.

We aim to enrich our pupils' lives by offering a variety of non-statutory extra-curricular experiences (clubs, visits, visiting speakers, sporting events, etc). In addition, we seek to enhance our pupils' learning through developing positive two-way relationships with our local community.

Library Visits

Promoting a love of Reading is at the heart of all we do. Building on our success we have made a commitment that every child should visit the library over the course of the 2024/2025 academic year.

This builds on the exciting reading events over the past year including: whole school sponsored read, book swaps and mystery reader.

Trips

We recognise the value that trips bring to the development of our children and each year group has a local trip, a visit, and a trip to somewhere linked to their topic.

We aim to continually enrich the lives of our children and widen their learning experiences.

Sports

Sports and physical activities promote a healthy lifestyle, improve mental health, build confidence, and teach important life skills such as teamwork and communication.

At St Leonards we are proud to offer the children a rich PE curriculum, taught by our specialist ape coach and which is supplemented by a wide range of extra curricular clubs. Our children proudly represent the school in a range of tournaments: football, cricket, athletics and netball.

Music

Music education provides numerous benefits for children, including improved cognitive skills, creativity and self-esteem.

We employ a music specialist, Mrs Fletcher, who teaches music to all classes across Year 1 to Year 6. Mrs Fletcher provides recorder lessons for all children in Year 4, ukulele for all children in Year 5 and drumming for all children in Year 6.
