We enjoy reading here at St Leonards and celebrate books in many different ways.

Reading Ambassadors

Our Reading Ambassadors run a KS2 Book Club each week, where they read together and enjoy discussing books as a group. They help keep reading areas tidy, read with the younger children in the school and look out for reading competitions we can enter!

“I enjoy being a Reading Ambassador because it’s fun to join our ideas together; we like to make predictions and talk about what might happen in the next chapter.”

Book Babble

Our Ambassadors also recommend books during worship time. They talk to the rest of the school about a book they have enjoyed reading and recommend its suitability for different ages and groups of children.

“We share the blurb and the highlights of a story, for example the funny parts. We recommend the book for certain ages.”

Reading Breakfast

What could be better than eating your breakfast while curled up with a good book? Our Reading Ambassadors help run Breakfast Club by taking our younger children and hearing them read while they enjoy a good breakfast together.

Book Club - KS1

Mrs. Routledge and Mrs. Claridge in Y2 run Book Club for KS1 on a Tuesday after school. Despite the cold weather, they wrap up warm in blankets and the group enjoy reading books outside in our reading area.

World Book Day 2025

This year, World Book Day will be based around the ‘Little People, Big Dreams’ books. These are about real people with big dreams, who have achieved their dreams with hard work and dedication.
